The Iranian Ilyushin Il-62 that crashed on July 24 while attempting to land at Marshhad was reported to have a landing speed that was much too high. The aircraft, owned by private company Aria, landed with a speed of approximately 170 mph while 140-150 mph is recommended by the manufacturer. Furthermore, Iranian minister of transportation Ahmad Majidi said that the aircraft touched-down at the middle of the runway, making the remaining runway length insufficient to reach a complete stop safely. Consequently the aircraft overshot the runway and hit a concrete wall. A total of 17 on-board the aircraft were killed, of which 13 were crew members.
